"... a Spiritual roller coaster ride! Harry Potter meets the Exorcist!" - American Online Radio
"This story really wowed me. Not only did it remind me a lot of The Sixth Sense (except the main character helps the ghosts), but it also has a lot of duality between life/death, past/present, and good/evil. I loved seeing the dichotomy of these aspects played out as Jack helps Kasper and others, and find a way to get home." Simone *****
" It's usually hard to creep me out with horror books, but this one did get to me quite a few times. I particularly loved these lines:
I think the scariest places are the ones in our heads. Those are the real haunted houses.
How can you tell a story and leave out its soul?
The dead don't come back, but some never leave...
The author’s depictions and descriptions of the artwork created by Kasper had me wishing vehemently that they were real and that I could view them. I am now dying to see these paintings—and they don’t even really exist! (Or do they…? Haha) The writing is wonderful and beautifully done. He does an excellent job of showing, not telling. I also greatly appreciate what an excellent job he does with the ending with making it feel open-ended enough for a sequel and wanting to guess what will come next but also feeling properly ended. This is a book I could actually see being read and studied in college English and literature classes as well as enjoyed for simpler, more trade book purposes. It is a fun read, but one could spend hours unpacking it. Oddly enough, I enjoyed the book more the second time I went through it. That is rare for me. It was like I was able to pick up on more and make more interesting connections. Now, that is a selling point for the bookworms and nerds out there!"
